In this hands-on workshop, you will follow step-by-step sentinel 1 data preprocessing and flood modeling in the SNAP toolbox. We will provide the case study work at the end of the session to boost your confidence in using the SNAP toolbox for flood inundation mapping.
WHAT IS SNAP?
The Sentinel Application Platform (SNAP) is a typical architecture for all Sentinel Toolboxes. The software was developed by Brockmann Consult, Skywatch, Sensar, and C-S. The SNAP architecture is ideal for Earth Observation processing and analysis due to technological innovations: Extensibility, Portability, Modular Rich Client Platform, Generic EO Data Abstraction, Tiled Memory Management, and Graph Processing Framework.
WHAT IS SENTINEL?
The Sentinel Satellite Fleet is part of the Copernicus program – the European Commission’s Earth Observation Program, formerly known as GMES (Global Monitoring for Environment and Security). The program uses data provided by environmental satellites and air & ground stations to provide a comprehensive set of land, atmospheric and oceanographic parameters supporting ecological and security policy needs.
OUR WORKSHOP TRAINER
The workshop trainer has more than three years of experience in flood modeling, geospatial analysis, and programming. He pursued postgraduation in Hydraulics and Water Resources Engineering from IIT Madras. He did thesis work from the Technical University of Braunschweig, Germany, and expert in using hydrology-related geospatial software tools such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM, SWAT, etc. He has good hands-on Python programming.
